Kylian Mbappe condemned a Paraguayan senator for making racist comments about him following France's 1-0 win over Paraguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 16.
Mbappe scored the decisive penalty in the second half of the match in Philadelphia on Saturday. The France forward responded on X to senator Celeste Amarilla, who described him as a “colonised Cameroonian” and a “brute who had not learned to write”.
In his reply Mbappe wrote that Amarilla was “a despicable woman and unworthy of your position”. He added that her remarks had overshadowed Paraguay’s performance at the tournament.
The French Football Federation announced it would report the matter to prosecutors. A statement said the comments were “criminal and reprehensible” and that the federation would seek legal proceedings.
