The Michael Jackson musical biopic Michael has reached $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. Lionsgate achieved this milestone for the first time with the film.
The Antoine Fuqua-directed movie crossed the threshold after 12 weeks in theaters. It is the second film of 2026 to hit the mark, following Super Mario Galaxy.
Domestic earnings stand at $371.8 million while overseas totals reached $629.8 million. Japan contributed $35.75 million to the final push.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson said the success stemmed from partnerships with filmmakers Graham King and Antoine Fuqua along with the cast led by Jaafar Jackson. Producer Graham King called the global response heartwarming.
Director Antoine Fuqua described the achievement as a humbling celebration of the cast, crew and audiences worldwide. The film also stars Nia Long, Colman Domingo and Miles Teller.
