A special court in Mumbai granted four days of temporary bail to an 18-year-old accused in a sexual assault case to allow him to prepare for and appear in the NEET re-examination.
The bail was granted on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The accused must surrender to the investigating officer by 2:00 PM on June 22 after the exam.
The defence argued that the criminal justice system supports rehabilitation and that the accused needed time to prepare properly. The prosecutor suggested either a single-day bail or appearance under police escort.
The victim raised no objection provided the accused did not threaten or defame her or her family. The accused faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The re-examination is scheduled after a paper leak was reported last month.
