Juan Díaz went missing on Thursday, April 2, around 1:00 p.m. near the Santa Fe mine in Rosario municipality, Sinaloa. While operating a drone for coverage of the trapped miners' rescue, the device crashed, reportedly due to a signal inhibitor. Díaz ventured about 500 meters into the area to retrieve it but did not return, prompting alerts from N+.
N+ requested assistance from local and federal authorities: “We request support from local and federal authorities to locate engineer Juan Díaz.” The search involved teams from the Army, Civil Protection, and rescuers in mountainous areas, the riverbed, and El Polvorín. A Black Hawk helicopter from the Secretariat of the Navy conducted flyovers, along with drones in hard-to-reach zones.
After several hours, members of the Secretariat of National Defense found him alive and well. Danielle Dithurbide stated: “Members of the Secretariat of National Defense found our colleague, engineer Juan Díaz, alive and well; he is the drone operator participating in the coverage of the trapped miners' rescue.” No further details on his health have been provided.
