The National Army killed José Alfredo Quiñones Ordóñez, alias ‘El Negro José’, in the Santa Marta rural area of La Plata, Huila, during Friday night. Quiñones was the finance chief of the ‘Hernando González Acosta’ front, led by alias ‘Bleiner García’ and part of the ‘Isaías Pardo’ central block under alias ‘Iván Mordisco’. He selected extortion targets, set amounts, coordinated victim summons and oversaw collections, according to Colonel Oscar Cárdenas, acting commander of Huila Police.
In the joint operation with Police, they captured alias ‘Estefany’, 20 years old, in charge of extortion collections and the group's pseudopolitical role. They also rescued a minor illegally recruited. Seized items included two 9 mm pistols, ammunition, a laptop, USB drives, a cellphone, 650,000 pesos, extortion receipts and materials for illegal ID cards.
General César Augusto Suárez, commander of the Ninth Brigade, said the neutralization brings security and tranquility to locals by halting extortions. He denounced modified ammunition, made more lethal, as a violation of International Humanitarian Law.
Following the event, the dissident front retaliated with a low-impact explosive attack on a Quimbo power substation and the burning of a tractor-trailer in Puerto Seco, marked with ‘Farc EP’. Police are investigating.
