The deadline for the extraordinary migrant regularization process closed with 1,174,978 applications submitted, double the government's initial forecast.
The applications submitted total 1,174,978, according to data from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. 79.6% used the arraigo route and 20.4% international protection.
67% of applicants come from Latin America, led by Colombia (26%), followed by Morocco (13.4%), Venezuela (11.7%) and Peru (8.8%). Catalonia recorded 257,000 requests, Madrid 220,000 and the Valencian Community 167,000.
57% of applicants are men and 81% are under 45 years old. So far 11,000 files have been resolved and 609,737 have been admitted for processing.
Minister Elma Saiz stressed that the figure highlights the need for the procedure. The Government has sped up processing amid possible Supreme Court doubts on its compatibility with European regulations.
