One dead and two seriously injured in crash on B81 near Magdeburg

A 72-year-old driver died in a crash on the B81 near Magdeburg. Two other people were seriously injured.

The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. in a construction zone between Langenweddingen and Magdeburg. The 72-year-old driver entered oncoming traffic for unknown reasons and collided head-on with another car. Despite resuscitation attempts the driver died at the scene. The 71-year-old driver and 65-year-old passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. Police closed the B81 until 6 p.m. Investigators are examining the cause of the accident.
