21-year-old crashes into truck on A1 near Ahrensburg

A 21-year-old driver crashed into a truck on the A1 near Ahrensburg this morning. The driver from Cloppenburg was lightly injured and taken to hospital.

Around 7 a.m. the BMW drove under the trailer of a truck between the Stapelfeld and Ahrensburg exits. The car left the roadway, hit the embankment and ended up in the ditch.

The Autobahnpolizei Bad Oldesloe suspects microsleep as the cause. Operating fluids leaked, so the environmental office was called in and the soil must be excavated.

The A1 northbound was initially fully closed. Later traffic was guided past in one lane. The right lane was due to reopen by 1 p.m. By midday traffic had backed up to five kilometres.
