A record number of high school students in Dalarna had their study grants withdrawn during the 2025/2026 academic year due to invalid absence.
In Dalarna 10.6 percent of students were affected. The highest share was recorded in Borlänge municipality at 13.7 percent while Leksand municipality had the lowest at 5.3 percent.
Peter Engberg, analyst at CSN, states that schools work against invalid absence but have not yet achieved the desired effect. He points to stricter reporting routines and a general trend of higher absence among high school students.
For the study grant to be withdrawn invalid absence of at least four hours during one month is required. The figure for all of Sweden was 11.8 percent, an increase from previous years.
