Samuel Basallo remained out of the Baltimore Orioles starting lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Seattle Mariners at Camden Yards due to left wrist discomfort first felt on Sunday.
The 21-year-old catcher and designated hitter has not started since Sunday, though he appeared off the bench in the previous two games. Manager Craig Albernaz said prior to Wednesday's contest that Basallo has had strong work sessions recently and will be available off the bench. 'Just doing what’s best for Sammy. Long season,' Albernaz said. He added that the decision is his own and involves playing the long game with the young player, who signed an eight-year, $67 million extension last August. Basallo has batted .263 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs in 56 games this season. Adley Rutschman has been sidelined with left hamstring tightness, leaving Sam Huff to start at catcher for three straight games.
