President Gustavo Petro reacted to the appointment of Jorge Eduardo Mora López as the incoming defense minister in Abelardo De La Espriella's government.
Petro wrote on his X account that every officer removed from his government was for reasons unrelated to politics. "Or for corruption data or human rights violation data," he stated.
Mora will take the post after being retired in 2022 by direct order from Petro. The incoming minister said he sent information to the Attorney General's Office about an increase in the army's public services spending, which he described as suspicious of corruption.
The appointment is part of the transition to the new government, which will take office on August 7.
