A planned reboot of the 1984 comedy Police Academy starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele was halted following the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Ike Barinholtz revealed the details on the June 17 episode of the podcast Funny You Ask with Ike Barinholtz.
Barinholtz said he and his writing partner had been hired to rewrite the film for New Line Cinema as a rated R project.
The project was dropped after the August 9, 2014, killing of Michael Brown by police, as executives decided against a cop comedy featuring the two Black actors at that time.
The original Police Academy film starred Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall and Bubba Smith and spawned multiple sequels.
