ABC has renewed the police procedural The Rookie for a ninth season. The renewal arrives 15 weeks into the current eighth season's 18-episode run. TVLine first reported the news.
The eighth season of The Rookie concludes on Monday, May 4, at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes continue airing Mondays in the same time slot during the ongoing season. Nathan Fillion stars as John Nolan, the former oldest rookie in the LAPD who draws on his life experience, determination, and humor to mentor younger officers half his age. The series follows Nolan and his team as they tackle demanding jobs and personal issues while supporting new first responders. Fillion also executive produces the show alongside an ensemble cast that includes Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey, Melissa O'Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez, and Deric Augustine as Miles Penn. This renewal adds The Rookie to ABC's list of pickups for the 2026-27 season, which includes 9-1-1 for season 10, 9-1-1: Nashville for season 2, Abbott Elementary for season 6, Grey's Anatomy for season 23, High Potential for season 3, and Will Trent for season 5.
