President Ruto announces road project and addresses fuel scandal

President William Ruto announced plans for a World Bank-funded Class B road linking Narok and Nakuru counties during a church service in Kilgoris. He vowed action against officials implicated in a Ksh4 billion substandard fuel scandal. The remarks came during the April 5 service in Narok County.

During a church service in Kilgoris, Narok County on April 5, 2026, President William Ruto announced plans for a Class B road linking Narok County areas including Marua, Enkaka, Enosail, Kilgoris, and Cheptuka to Salgaa in Nakuru County, spanning 140 to 160 kilometres.

“And then there is this road which you were promised by the first government of the republic, you were also promised by the second, third, and fourth governments, but never fulfilled,” Ruto said. He added that he had already talked to the World Bank and would construct the road himself.

Sources within the Narok County Government speculate construction will likely commence in July from Impopong, Narok County.

Ruto addressed the arrests of Principal Secretary for Petroleum Mohamed Liban, Kenya Pipeline Company Managing Director Joe Sang, and former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director General Daniel Kiptoo. “I want to say here today, we will not talk about corruption. We will do what needs to be done so corruption ends in this country,” he said.

He accused energy sector cartels of using Middle East developments to create artificial crises in Kenya for gain, while noting successes against cartels in coffee and sugar sectors.
