The decision follows recommendations from the Council of Ministers and is based on legal provisions and performance evaluation.
Addis Ababa, Megabit 29, 2018 (Fana) — Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has extended Lieutenant General Tadesse Woreden Shumete's tenure as acting president of the Tigray regional state by one year.
The extension takes effect from Miazia 1, 2018 in the Ethiopian calendar. It is grounded in Article 62(9) of the FDRE Constitution, Article 14 sub-article 2(b) of Proclamation No. 359/1995, and other relevant provisions.
The Council of Ministers recommended the move based on a report from the Tigray regional acting administration and an assessment of the past year's performance. Decision No. 479/2013, Article 4(2), also serves as a basis.
This action prolongs the interim leadership in Tigray under the acting administration.
