Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said he would seek aggressive prosecutions of suspected Medicaid abuse, pointing to a recent Daily Wire investigation that alleged questionable billing patterns among home-care providers in the Columbus area.
Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican running for Ohio governor, said he would pursue "aggressive" prosecutions related to suspected Medicaid fraud highlighted in a recent investigation by The Daily Wire.
Ramaswamy made the remarks after The Daily Wire published a multi-part series alleging that Ohio’s Medicaid program has paid large sums to clusters of home-health and in-home “personal services” providers—some registered at the same addresses—billing for non-medical assistance such as housekeeping and companionship. The series cited federal and state payment data and described offices that appeared sparsely staffed or vacant.
In a separate interview highlighted by The Daily Wire, Ramaswamy told the outlet that officials have "turned a blind eye" to government waste and said he would crack down on the kinds of practices described in the reporting if elected.
The allegations have also drawn attention from other Ohio Republicans. State Auditor Keith Faber said in an interview with radio host Bruce Hooley that the state should pursue a broader audit to compare utilization patterns across counties and identify anomalies, arguing that unusually concentrated spending could warrant deeper investigation.
The Daily Wire’s reporting did not allege that every provider in the program is fraudulent, but argued that weak oversight of in-home services can make improper billing difficult to detect because the work—if performed—typically occurs in private residences.
Ohio’s Medicaid program is one of the state’s largest budget items. State fiscal data and policy analyses place total annual Medicaid spending in the low-$40-billion range in recent years, reflecting combined federal and state expenditures.
Fox News and other conservative media have amplified the Daily Wire allegations in recent days, while Ohio’s Democratic Party has used the controversy to attack Ramaswamy’s broader health-care posture. The underlying claims about billing and provider practices, however, remain largely sourced to The Daily Wire’s investigation and responses from political figures rather than to independently released findings from law enforcement or prosecutors.
