Starting Tuesday July 21, Renfe will allow dogs up to 40 kilos to travel in pet-friendly cars next to their owners.
The measure will apply to services including AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity, Avant and Media Distancia. Until now it was available only on select AVE routes between Madrid and other cities.
Tickets will include a 40-euro supplement for AVE and similar trains. Each train will admit up to two dogs that will occupy the inner seat with a 1.5-meter leash and muzzle during boarding and alighting.
Dogs must be at least one year old, not belong to potentially dangerous breeds and not be in heat. Owners will need vaccination documents and a cleaning kit.
