One week after CAF awarded the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 title to Morocco, stripping Senegal following a controversial final, the Senegalese Football Federation has formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. CAS confirmed the proceedings are underway, with no timeline given amid complex international sports law challenges.
Building on CAF's March decision to revoke Senegal's 1-0 extra-time victory in the AFCON 2025 final—due to a 17-minute pitch protest over a late penalty—the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has lodged its appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reinstate the original result.
The FSF also requested a freeze on the deadline for its full appeal brief until CAF provides complete reasoning for its ruling. CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb affirmed: “CAS is perfectly equipped to resolve this type of dispute, with the assistance of expert and independent arbitrators. We understand that teams and fans are eager to know the final decision, and we will ensure that arbitration proceedings are conducted as swiftly as possible, while respecting the right of all parties to a fair hearing.”
CAS noted strict procedural rules prevent anticipating timelines or dates. This follows widespread reactions including players refusing medals and government calls for an independent probe into potential corruption.
