Rachael Gibson, known as the Hair Historian, notes its origins in the 1920s with shorter garçonne styles, its 1940s revival paired with curled hair like Veronica Lake's, and its 1990s return alongside supermodel blowouts. This resurgence counters recent minimal clean-girl trends, offering a more dynamic option, Gibson says: “A side part with hair sweeping across feels much more relaxed and less done, while still letting hair take up space.
