Square Enix has announced that its new HD-2D action RPG, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 18, 2026. The game features real-time combat and a story spanning four ages in a continent overrun by beast tribes. It was revealed during a Nintendo Partner Showcase, with additional details on save data bonuses and demo-based adjustments.
Square Enix revealed The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales during Nintendo's Partner Showcase, positioning it as a fresh entry in the HD-2D style popularized by titles like Octopath Traveler. Developed and published by Square Enix, the game casts players as Elliot, an adventurer, alongside his fairy companion Faie. They venture beyond the protected Kingdom of Huther, a human bastion shielded by a magic barrier, to explore ruins and uncover a millennium-spanning history across four ages.
The action RPG emphasizes intuitive real-time battles, departing from Square Enix's typical turn-based systems, with strategic support from the fairy sidekick. Exploration involves opening new paths in an untamed continent filled with beast tribes. A hands-on preview described it as a 'lovely HD-2D take on SNES-era Zelda,' evoking games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Secret of Mana, with lush worlds, curious enemies, and fluid combat.
Alongside the release date announcement, Square Enix detailed save data bonuses for owners of select titles, requiring existing save data or purchase history on the same platform profile. The company also plans adjustments based on feedback from a demo released ahead of launch. New trailers showcased the game's visuals and gameplay during events like the Tokyo Game Show. No review scores are available yet, as the title remains in development for its 2026 debut.
