Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings by 33 runs on Wednesday to move to the top of the IPL 2026 standings. The win highlighted SRH's strong batting and PBKS's recent slump.
Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 235 for 4, led by Heinrich Klaasen's 69 off 43 balls and Ishan Kishan's 55 off 32. Pat Cummins took 2 for 34 while Eshan Malinga claimed 1 for 34 to restrict Punjab Kings to 202 for 7.
Cooper Connolly scored an unbeaten 107 off 59 for PBKS, but the team struggled after a poor powerplay. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer noted the dropped catches and slower wicket that hurt their chase.
The result ended PBKS's fairytale start, with six wins in their first seven games followed by three straight losses. SRH now leads the points table, with three of their batters in the top five for the Orange Cap race.
