Seattle Storm center Stefanie Dolson posed in a "Trans Rights Are Human Rights" tank top on Tuesday as part of a promotional campaign. The action followed Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham's defense of keeping biological males out of women's sports.
Dolson participated in the Seattle Storm's "Arrivals" campaign sponsored by Alaska Airlines. Photos posted to the team's account showed her pointing to the word "Human" on the shirt.
Cunningham made her remarks in an ESPN interview a week earlier. She described her position as "common sense" and stressed the need to protect young girls in sports. She added that she would always stand by her beliefs regardless of feedback.
On Tuesday the Fever defeated the Storm 105-95. Several dozen supporters gathered outside the arena to back Cunningham and promote a November ballot measure on school sports in Washington.
The Indiana Fever issued a statement saying players' views are their own and the organization is committed to respect for all fans. The WNBA has promoted LGBTQ initiatives for years, including Pride campaigns and partnerships.
