Secondary school teachers in Kitui East disrupted learning on Wednesday by staging demonstrations against the killings of two colleagues. The victims, identified as Hellen and Kasingili, died in separate domestic disputes. Teachers marched through Mutitu town and presented a petition at the local police station.
The protest was led by Kitui KUPPET Branch Secretary Philip Maanzo. Teachers condemned the attacks and demanded that security agencies speed up investigations to arrest suspects.
Maanzo stated that teachers should not have to worry about their security outside the classroom. One protester said the union would continue pursuing justice until all suspects were apprehended.
Police at Mutitu Police Station said investigations into the two deaths were ongoing. KUPPET officials appealed to families and communities to embrace peaceful conflict resolution.
