Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is set to present proposals for the Musi River rejuvenation at the 'Musi Invites' event in Hyderabad on March 13. The plans include ensuring clean water flow, environmental protection, and development of riverbanks and public infrastructure. As part of the initiative, 29 new bridges are proposed on the river.
The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) is organising the 'Musi Invites' event on March 13 at Taj Krishna in Hyderabad to present proposed plans for the rejuvenation and development of the Musi River. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will attend the event and unveil the plans through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. The presentation will outline the project's objectives, which include ensuring clean water flow in the river, protecting the environment, developing riverbanks, and creating public infrastructure for citizens.
The event will see participation from Members of Parliament, MLCs, MLAs, and prominent leaders from various political parties. Intellectuals, environmental experts, urban planners, architects, and representatives from trade and business organisations have also been invited.
As part of the Musi rejuvenation initiative, the government has decided to take up the Gandhi Sarovar project in the first phase of development.
Under the Comprehensive Mobility Plan, which is part of the preparations for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Master Plan 2050, 29 new bridges are proposed on the Musi River. Currently, 17 bridges exist on the river within city limits, and the total is expected to reach 46 by 2050 if the proposals are implemented. These new bridges will be located within the 55-kilometre stretch of the river planned for development, from the twin reservoirs of Gandipet to Gowrelly village in Hayatnagar mandal of Ranga Reddy district. This would result in a bridge almost every kilometre.
Previous proposals by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi government included 14 high-level heritage bridges at locations such as Chaderghat, Ibrahimbagh, and Musarambagh. Some foundations were laid before the 2023 elections, but the projects were shelved after the regime change, except for the Musarambagh bridge where work had begun. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan is in its final stages and could be unveiled next month, alongside the Economic Development Plan and Blue Green Infrastructure Plan.
