Francesco Sossai’s “The Last One for the Road” dominated the 71st David di Donatello Awards, taking home eight prizes including best film and best director. The ceremony took place on Wednesday at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. The road movie also claimed awards for best actor, original screenplay, editing, original song, casting and producer.
The film follows two broke 50-somethings from Italy’s northern Veneto region who befriend a shy architecture student from Naples. Together they embark on a chaotic journey across the Venetian plains. It premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section in 2025 and opened in the United States on May 1 at Lincoln Center and IFC Center in New York.
