Trafikverket has awarded SJ the operation of night train services from Stockholm to Upper Norrland for the next two years. The contract also includes reintroduced direct services to Narvik.
The agreement runs from December 2026 to December 2028. It includes daily round trips on the route from Stockholm to Narvik via Umeå, Luleå and Kiruna as well as daily services between Stockholm and Umeå.
Travelers will therefore avoid changing trains in Boden on the way to Kiruna, Abisko and Narvik. SJ chief executive Jonas Abrahamsson stressed that the traffic serves an important function for both Swedish and international passengers.
Trafikverket director general Roberto Maiorana highlighted that night train services form a vital part of the infrastructure and support regional growth and tourism. New trains are scheduled for delivery in 2030.
