The U.S. Senate has set aside the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act to address nominations and a Russia sanctions bill first. Majority Leader John Thune outlined the schedule, which leaves limited time before the summer recess begins August 8.
The Senate is moving ahead with a package of nominees starting Monday and is expected to begin cloture on the Russia sanctions bill Tuesday night. That bill would impose sanctions on Russian leadership and tariffs on trading partners, and it is dedicated to the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
The Clarity Act, which has already advanced in the House, remains stalled over a provision banning senior officials including President Donald Trump from backing crypto projects. A potential agreement on the ethics section emerged last week after Trump signaled acceptance, though Democrats said the limits fell short.
If no action occurs next week, the bill's next opportunity would come after the August recess when lawmakers return in September. Even then, passage would require further House approval before reaching the president's desk.
