In their Copa Libertadores group stage debut at Claro Arena, Universidad Católica and Boca Juniors drew 0-0 early on, following a tense start with yellow cards to both captains after a foul sparked scuffles.
The Copa Libertadores group stage match between Universidad Católica and Boca Juniors began Tuesday at Claro Arena in Santiago. UC coach Daniel Garnero started his lineup, while Boca, under Claudio Úbeda, fielded theirs after a two-year absence from the competition.
Early tension defined the game: at the 7th minute, a foul on Giani led to pushes and insults between players. By the 9th minute, UC captain Zampedri and Boca captain Paredes each received yellow cards.
This followed days of security preparations, including approval for around 2,000 Boca fans after an initial ban was lifted, with strict measures like fan segregation and deportations of problematic individuals.
UC season-ticket holders from Tribuna Ignacio Prieto Alto, relocated for visiting fans, will receive compensations such as Lounge BICE access, food vouchers, and Copa Chile tickets.
