Kouri Richins, the children's book writer who penned a grief story after her spouse's death, was handed a life sentence without parole this week for his murder. A Utah court convicted her of lacing Eric Richins's drink with a massive fentanyl dose in March 2022.
The judge cited her danger to society when delivering the verdict on what would have been Eric's 44th birthday. Prosecutors painted a picture of debt and a new romance as motives, noting the couple's three young sons at the time of the killing. Richins also faced convictions for a Valentine's Day 2022 attempt and insurance fraud tied to the policy.
