The Fourth Section of the Valencia Provincial Court sentenced former footballer Rafa Mir on Monday to eight and a half years in prison for sexually assaulting a young woman in 2024.
The sentence imposes seven years in prison on Mir for sexual assault and eighteen months for injuries. It also orders him to pay the victim 64,000 euros in compensation and prohibits him from approaching her for 13 years.
The court further sentenced footballer Pablo Jara to two and a half years in prison for sexual assault against a second young woman. Jara must pay 6,280 euros and observe a five-year restraining order.
The events took place on the night of 1 September 2024 at Mir’s chalet in Bétera. The victims described non-consensual touching and struggles in the pool and bathroom.
The ruling, which is not final, highlights the credibility of the complainants’ testimonies and orders testimony against three local police officers for possible false testimony.
