Officials at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada suspect a conspiracy after a street dog carried away an amputated limb from the biomedical waste room. They are examining why the room was left unlocked and why no security was present. The incident took place a couple of days ago.
A preliminary inquiry by hospital staff found that an outsourcing employee recorded the dog taking the limb on video and shared the footage on social media. Officials questioned why the employee filmed the scene instead of alerting others immediately.
The biomedical waste room normally stays locked after sanitary staff deposit items handed over from the operation theatre. No CCTV covers the area, leaving unclear how the dog entered and removed the plastic bag containing the waste.
GGH Superintendent Dr. A. Yedukondalu said maintenance of the room has been assigned to a private agency. Instructions were issued to install surveillance cameras and establish a secure system for storage and disposal. Staff also alleged internal disputes that may have led some outsourcing workers to conspire in the event.
