Just before 1 p.m. on Sunday, a car crashed into a tree along riksväg 66 northwest of Ludvika. The driver, a woman, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after rescuers cut open the vehicle. The road was closed for a few hours during the rescue operation.
The crash occurred just north of Brunnsvik. Emergency services including police, ambulance and rescue were alerted just before 1 p.m. According to police, rescuers had to cut open the car to free the driver, who was then airlifted to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
Police state that the exact extent of the woman's injuries is unclear, though initial reports describe them as serious. The road was closed during the rescue but has now reopened.
The incident is being investigated as a traffic accident.
