Alexander Zverev defeated Taylor Fritz in the Wimbledon quarterfinals on July 8 and will next face British wildcard Arthur Fery in the semifinals. The German player addressed the home crowd during his post-match interview.
Zverev won the quarterfinal in straight sets after breaking serve at key moments and saving break points on his own serve. He advanced to face Fery, who earlier defeated Flavio Cobolli in straight sets on Centre Court.
During the on-court interview Zverev said the crowd could support Fery. “It’s okay. You guys can all be for Fery, I understand it, I don’t have a problem with it,” he stated. He added that he hoped for a good performance from himself and described the matchup as an exciting day for both players.
Fery reached the semifinals after wins over Grigor Dimitrov and Cobolli. Zverev expressed confidence in his own game while acknowledging the challenge of playing before a partisan audience at SW19.
