10-year-old Max Alexander becomes youngest designer at Paris Fashion Week

Max Alexander, a 10-year-old fourth grader from West Los Angeles, has become the youngest fashion designer ever to debut a collection at Paris Fashion Week. His sustainable designs, which emphasize biodegradable materials and recycled fabrics, highlight his focus on environmental protection. Alexander holds the Guinness World Record for the youngest runway fashion designer, achieved in 2023.

Max Alexander's journey in fashion began several years ago when, at age 7, he had dreams of becoming a dress designer and even embodying the late Paolo Gucci. His mother created a mannequin for him to start designing, sparking a passion that led to an Instagram account she launched for his work. By 2023, when CBS LA first met him, he had gained over a million followers; now, he has nearly six million across social media.

Paris Fashion Week, kicking off on Wednesday, marks a milestone for the young designer, who already runs his own label with employees. "Just a big deal. Bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger deal than a big deal," Max said in an interview with CBS LA. "Because Paris is the home of fashion!"

His debut collection features 15 dresses, with 90 percent made from biodegradable, recyclable, and sustainable materials sourced from dead stock and surplus fabrics. "Dead stock is leftover material not used by companies," Max explained. "It would have been in the landfill unless I rescued it." He added, "I'm trying to save the environment, in very complicated words."

Alexander's recent bag design and set of charms both sold out within 24 hours, underscoring his growing influence. In a post on Instagram, he shared his excitement about the Paris debut, noting it was made possible by widespread support, for which he is "forever grateful."

While preparing his collection in West Los Angeles, Max balances his fourth-grade life with a professional approach to design, blending childhood whimsy with business acumen.
