2025 ranking of coastal towns in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Le Figaro has published its exclusive 2025 ranking of 85 cities and villages along the Nouvelle-Aquitaine coast, assessed on 45 criteria including transport, leisure, and environment. These communes, home to nearly 3.5 million residents, draw new inhabitants yearly with their oceanfront appeal. Yet challenges such as high real estate costs and coastal erosion make selection tricky.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine's Atlantic coast boasts abundant charms, including life by the ocean, mountain hikes, expansive vineyards, and bike rides through pine forests. Its coastal communes, housing about 3.5 million people, experience yearly population growth.

Selecting a residence remains challenging, however. Pitfalls encompass steep real estate prices, winter shop closures, remoteness from health services, and coastal erosion. To assist retirees and workers, Le Figaro examined 85 locations in the departments of Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes, and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

The assessment draws on 45 criteria spanning transport, leisure, commerce, environment, and quality of life. This ranking aims to pinpoint prime spots for ocean-adjacent living, considering local realities. Full exclusive results are accessible to subscribers, emphasizing the need for informed decisions in relocation.
