Addis Ababa courts recover over 7 billion birr in benefits

Courts in Addis Ababa have recovered over 7.67 billion birr in public and government benefits through enforcement actions. This achievement came from proceedings in 5,530 court records over the past nine months of the budget year. The city administration's Justice Bureau reported the figures.

On Miyazya 21, 2018 (EC), the Addis Ababa city administration's Justice Bureau announced the recovery. Over the past nine months of the budget year, 2,249 rulings were issued from 5,530 court records.

Among these, 2,088 records were transferred to the government, yielding 7.670 billion 637 thousand 854 birr, 154 buildings, 49 job site sheds, and 221 plots totaling 34 hectares of land, according to Ato Tekle Zibeh, who spoke to Fana Digital.

Additionally, enforcement was carried out in 93 records, with 89 appeal records, 285 pledges, 84 government projects, and 49 legally attached job sheds recovered across 1,295 records, of which 1,291 went to the city administration.

The bureau provided free legal aid to 43 community groups in need, and from 7,722 criminal investigation submissions, 6,755 were dismissed on merits. It also began revising budget year laws and preparing 45 new legal drafts.
