Alias 'El Flaco' dies in police clash in Tesalia

A 21-year-old man known as alias 'El Flaco' was killed during a Farc dissident attack on the Tesalia police station in Huila. Authorities confirmed his identity through police intelligence, as officers repelled the assault aimed at eliminating those present. The incident took place on the night of December 5, leaving behind abandoned explosives and injuries among the armed group.

On Friday, December 5, around 10:00 p.m., Farc dissidents led by alias 'Iván Mordisco' launched an attack on the Tesalia Police Station in Huila, coinciding with President Gustavo Petro's farewell in Pitalito after his visit to San Agustín. The operation, ordered by alias 'Masa' of the central block 'Isaías Pardo' and carried out by alias 'Fernando Gómez' of the 'Ismael Ruiz' front, involved three trucks and two motorcycles to enter the urban area and attempt to kill the 10 on-duty police.

The attackers used a cylinder to breach the station's wall, but officers, alerted by their defense strategy, ambushed them inside. The clash lasted over an hour, with crossfire injuring at least one man and one woman from the armed group. Alias 'El Flaco', Emanuel Marín, 21 years old from Rionegro, Páez, Cauca, who served as an explosives expert, was hit by a shot from 150 meters away while trying to place a bomb at the Banco Agrario ATM. Community videos show dissidents dragging him during their escape.

Colonel Carlos Eduardo Téllez, Huila Police commander, arrived around 2:00 a.m. for support, joined by Ninth Brigade Army reinforcements and the Air Force, which deployed one plane and two helicopters. The attackers fled toward Paicol, abandoning three petards in the station, one bomb cylinder outside, three cylinders, seven improvised explosive devices, one IM-M26 grenade, and launch ramps. Authorities estimate at least three subversives dead.

'The purpose was to take lives, injure the police at the station,' stated Government Secretary Casallas. Amid the chaos, the station's pets, 'Blanquita' and 'Mona', fled but returned unharmed, symbolizing resilience. Marín's family held his funeral on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Nuestra Señora de Aránzazu Parish.
