Anthropic gets US permission to redeploy Mythos cybersecurity model

Anthropic has received permission from the US government to restore access to its Mythos 5 AI model for select organizations. The company announced the development on June 27. Access had been suspended earlier this month.

The US government approved redeployment of Mythos 5 to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. Anthropic said it is restoring access quickly and will continue talks to expand availability further.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote in a letter that appropriate safeguards are now in place. He noted that Anthropic has committed to working with the government on protocols for its models.

The company had blocked all access to Mythos 5 and Fable 5 on June 12 following a government directive. Officials cited concerns that the models could be jailbroken by bad actors, including a China-linked group.

Anthropic remains in discussions with the government about restoring Fable 5 but provided no timeline for that step.
