Apple is pushing back the reveal of its smart glasses to June 2027 to address privacy concerns. The devices, code-named N50, were previously expected later this year with a 2027 release. The company now aims for a launch by the end of 2027.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple’s Vision hardware teams are prioritizing privacy features for the glasses. Options under consideration include removing the camera entirely or limiting it to AI tasks without photo or video capture. The company is also expected to use on-device processing and avoid facial recognition.
Concerns stem from experiences with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, where users have found ways to disable recording indicators. Restrictions on smart glasses have already appeared in some courts, schools and venues. Apple plans to include a visible recording indicator similar to Meta’s approach.
The glasses are set to feature an AI-powered Siri for calls, messages and navigation. Multiple frame styles are in development, and battery life is expected to last a full day. A representative for Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
