Apple releases iOS 26.2 and ecosystem updates with critical security fixes and app enhancements

Apple began rolling out iOS 26.2 on December 12, 2025, patching two zero-day WebKit vulnerabilities actively exploited in sophisticated targeted attacks, plus over two dozen other bugs. The update adds UI improvements like expanded Liquid Glass customization and app features for Apple Music, Podcasts, and more. Companion updates for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS focus on convenience and security. At least half of iPhone owners have yet to update to iOS 26 or later, risking exposure.

Apple released iOS 26.2 and related OS updates starting December 12, 2025, prioritizing security patches and quality-of-life enhancements over major changes. Apple, in collaboration with the Google Threat Analysis Group, addressed two zero-day flaws in WebKit—the engine behind Safari—that could enable arbitrary code execution via malicious web content, potentially leading to data theft or device compromise. These issues "may have been actively exploited in extremely sophisticated attacks against specific targeted individuals" on pre-iOS 26 versions. The update fixes more than two dozen bugs overall.

Users can install via Settings > General > Software Update > Update Now. Apple stresses: "Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your Apple product's security." Despite this, at least half of iPhone owners remain on iOS versions before 26, leaving devices vulnerable.

iOS 26.2 and iPadOS 26.2 expand Liquid Glass (introduced in iOS 26), adding a lock screen clock opacity slider for translucent-to-solid adjustments, Liquid Glass design to the Measure app's Level tool, and menu darkening from iOS 26.1. Apple Music introduces offline lyrics for downloaded songs and a Favorite Songs playlist in Top Picks. Podcasts adds auto-generated chapters with navigation hash marks, plus direct links to follow mentioned shows from transcripts. The News app features a top menu for sections like Sports, Politics, and Business. Reminders supports alarms for urgent tasks with snooze and Live Activities. Safety Alerts include toggles for US Earthquake and Imminent Threat Alerts, broadcasting anonymously, with optional location sharing for improved delivery. Health app Sleep Scores now use thresholds: 0-40 Very Low, 41-60 Low, 61-80 OK, 81-95 High, 96-100 Very High. Other tweaks cover Games filters and in-game score banners, secure AirDrop verification codes, and improved controller support for Backbone/Razer. iPadOS enhances multitasking with drag-and-drop windowing. Safety Alerts provide detailed maps for emergencies.

macOS Tahoe 26.2 adds Edge Light, turning the display into a ring light for video calls. watchOS 26.2 fixes stuck songs in Music and adds Sleep app controls. tvOS 26.2 enables profiles without Apple Accounts and new kid restrictions. visionOS 26.2 improves Travel Mode for vehicles and supports spatial accessories like Logitech Muse in Notes, Freeform, and PencilKit.

These updates emphasize user protection and convenience across Apple's ecosystem.
