Ariadna Montiel visits Usumacinta River in Tabasco

Welfare Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes accompanied President Claudia Sheinbaum on a tour of Tabasco and Campeche to deliver Bienestar scholarships. During the visit, Montiel shared a photo at the Usumacinta River and highlighted women's role in the country's transformation. She emphasized the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program as an act of justice for women aged 60 to 64.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's tour of southeast Mexico included visits to Tabasco and Campeche, where Bienestar scholarships were delivered. Ariadna Montiel Reyes, Welfare Secretary, accompanied Sheinbaum and took time to visit the Usumacinta River in Jonuta, Tabasco, on the border with Campeche.

Montiel shared a selfie on her Facebook account, with the river in the background, and wrote: "it always receives us with its waters and its beautiful nature. Here, in Jonuta, Tabasco, on the limits with Campeche, the southeast always touches the heart". A comment on the post read: "In our Usumacinta River boss, the most powerful river in the country, thank you for coming to Palizada and Jonuta".

The Usumacinta, stretching from northwest Guatemala to Chiapas and Tabasco, covers a basin of 122,000 square kilometers. It is the most important current in the Gulf of Mexico after the Mississippi and the seventh most powerful in the world.

From Palizada, Campeche, Montiel emphasized that "it is time for women and they are the protagonists of the transformation". She explained that the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar benefits nearly 3 million Mexican women aged 60 to 64, with bimonthly deposits into Banco del Bienestar cards. Upon turning 65, they automatically transition to the Adultos Mayores Pension, doubling their income.

"Today our President is building the second floor of the Transformation with a very clear message, it is time for women", Montiel said. She added that the program, launched earlier than planned on Sheinbaum's instructions, recognizes family caregiving work and follows Humanismo Mexicano principles. "Women have always participated in the transformations that Mexico has experienced and today with our first woman President, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum, we are changing the history of our country", she stated. She stressed that it is not a favor but an act of justice, and reaffirmed her commitment to a more equitable Mexico.
