Gordon Cormier, who plays Aang in Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender, has opened up about his real-life growth spurt and how it shapes the character in Season 2.
The second season is now streaming, more than two years after the first. Cormier, now 16, was 12 when filming began on Season 1.
"There was just so much time in between the two seasons, so Aang is almost a completely new person," Cormier told TVLine. "Like, he's gone through puberty. It's crazy."
Showrunners Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani noted that the timing proved fortunate. Season 2 is darker than the first, and the actor's maturity helps portray more complex challenges.
Netflix has already renewed the series for a third and final season.
