Ayaneo reveals affordable Pocket Vert Game Boy remake

Ayaneo has announced the Pocket Vert, a new vertical handheld remake of the classic Game Boy, with early bird pricing starting at $269. This follows the pricier Pocket DMG model and aims to attract more retro gaming enthusiasts with a minimalist design. The device will launch via an upcoming Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

Ayaneo's latest entry in retro handheld gaming, the Pocket Vert, offers a more budget-friendly alternative to its predecessor, the Pocket DMG, which retails for $449. The company revealed details of the Pocket Vert, emphasizing a fully metal CNC body and an ultra-minimalist aesthetic with engraving-free buttons reminiscent of the Analogue Pocket.

Key specifications include a compact 3.5-inch LCD screen boasting a resolution of 1,600 x 1,440 pixels, powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. This setup enables the device to run games up to PlayStation 2 titles and select Nintendo Switch offerings. For enhanced usability in modern gaming, a hidden touch pad beneath the buttons serves as a makeshift joystick, while a fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button. Connectivity options comprise a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD slot for expanded storage.

The Pocket Vert skips premium features like an OLED display and high-end configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage found in the Pocket DMG. It will be available in three colors through an Indiegogo campaign launching soon, where early bird buyers can secure the base model for $269 before it rises to a standard retail price of $339. A fully equipped variant in Lava Red, featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, is priced at $369 for early birds and $439 afterward.

This announcement, dated December 28, 2025, positions the Pocket Vert as an accessible option for fans seeking a vertical form factor in portable gaming devices.
