Banco W estimates placing over $100 billion in credits for Mipymes during the World Cup

Banco W projects granting over $100 billion in microcredits to Mipymes in Colombia during the 2026 World Cup.

The financial entity anticipates that increased consumption driven by the tournament will generate higher demand for short-term financing. Mipymes will need resources to maintain liquidity and stock inventories in sectors such as food, transport and retail.

Diego Fernando Martínez, planning and financial control manager at Banco W, noted that the World Cup tests the financial sector. He explained that the entity must respond to the rise in economic activity without losing balance.

The executive warned of over-indebtedness risks if companies lack proper planning. Growth of 20% to 65% is expected in digital payments, though fraud could also rise by up to 30%.
