Björn Hamberg overtager som Elfsborg-træner

Björn Hamberg, assistenttræner for det svenske landshold, bliver ny hovedtræner for Allsvenskan-klubben IF Elfsborg. Han erstatter Oscar Hiljemark og har underskrevet kontrakt til 2029. Hamberg fortsætter sine landsholdsopgaver under forårets playoffkampe og muligvis VM-finalerne.

Björn Hamberg, som længe har været assistenttræner for det svenske landshold, overtager som hovedtræner for IF Elfsborg i Allsvenskan-fodboldligaen. Klubben fra Borås meddeler, at Hamberg tager lederrollen efter år som tæt medarbejder for Graham Potter. Han har også trænet Brightons U18-hold indtil for nylig. Hamberg erstatter Oscar Hiljemark, som forlod Elfsborg til Serie A-klubben Pisa. Kontrakten med Elfsborg løber ud 2029. På trods af den nye rolle bevarer Hamberg sine landsholdsforpligtelser under forårets playoffkampe og muligvis VM-finalerne. I en udtalelse på klubbens hjemmeside siger Hamberg: «Jeg er meget påvirket af de miljøer, jeg har været i, og principperne i spillet, som jeg har arbejdet med de seneste 15-20 år. Et hold, der vil have bolden, et hold, der vil drive spillet, forsøge at få kampene på deres egne præmisser.» Hans filosofi lægger vægt på boldbesiddelse og at kontrollere kampene på deres egne præmisser.
