Body of lawyer found decomposed in La Plata river identified

Authorities confirmed the identity of lawyer Germán Camilo Clavijo Cabrera, whose decomposed body was found in the La Plata river in western Huila. The professional had disappeared since December 31 in the urban area of La Plata, where his family resides. The causes of his death are still under investigation.

The body of Germán Camilo Clavijo Cabrera, a criminal lawyer who worked at the Superintendencia de Notariado y Registro in Bogotá, was discovered on Tuesday afternoon at kilometer three on the road connecting La Plata to Neiva. A farmhand alerted emergency services after spotting the corpse in the waterway, prompting the intervention of the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters recovered the body following safety protocols and preserving the scene.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the identity could not be established immediately. Prosecutors from the Fiscalía conducted urgent procedures to collect evidentiary materials. Family members went to the Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal in Neiva, where they recognized the remains and confirmed it was the lawyer missing since December 31.

Investigators are working to clarify the circumstances of his death. Forensic experts rule out no hypotheses and are examining whether it was a violent death or another type of incident. The case remains under reserve as inquiries progress.

The event caused shock on social media. Darwin Adolfo Legarda wrote: “Friend Germán Camilo Clavijo Cabrera, today you say goodbye to this world; very sad news. Despite the difficulties, today you are with your mother. You were a very good professional and thanks for the moments shared. A hug of solidarity to the entire Clavijo Cabrera family.” Ligia Cuéllar added: “God has him in his holy glory, heartfelt condolences to his dear family.”
