Brighton & Hove Albion secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, thanks to a stunning stoppage-time overhead kick from substitute Charalampos Kostoulas. Bournemouth had taken the lead via a first-half penalty from Marcus Tavernier, following a VAR-reviewed foul by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen on Amine Adli. The result leaves both mid-table sides searching for consistency.
The match at Brighton's Amex Stadium on Monday evening saw Bournemouth dominate the first half, outrunning and outworking the hosts. They were awarded a penalty five minutes after an initial incident when referee Paul Tierney showed Verbruggen a yellow card for what appeared to be a dive by Adli. VAR intervention confirmed contact on Adli's thigh, allowing Tavernier to slot the kick into the bottom left corner.
Bournemouth's forward Evanilson nearly added to the lead, clipping the post with a run-through effort and heading wide from a good position. Brighton, out of sorts, were booed off at halftime despite their strong home record of just two losses in 18 Premier League games.
The Seagulls improved after the break, enjoying 73% possession but struggling to test Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Kaoru Mitoma curled just wide, Diego Gomez saw shots blocked, and substitute Yankuba Minteh forced a save.
