Camila Osorio wins inaugural Philippine Women’s Open

Colombia's Camila Osorio claimed her first WTA title outside her home country by defeating Croatia's Donna Vekic in the final of the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open on January 31, 2026, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

World No. 84 Camila Osorio of Colombia secured her first WTA title abroad with a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Croatia's Donna Vekic in the final of the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open, a WTA 125 event, on January 31, 2026, at Manila's Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. This triumph marked a breakthrough for the 24-year-old, who had previously won all three of her WTA titles—the Copa Colsanitas in 2021, 2024, and 2025—at home in Colombia. She had come close overseas before, reaching the finals of the 2021 Tenerife Ladies Open in Spain and the 2022 Monterrey Open in Mexico but falling short both times.

Osorio's path to the title included upsets over higher-ranked players: Philippines' No. 49 Alex Eala in the quarterfinals, Argentina's No. 63 Solana Sierra, and Vekic at No. 72. Despite ousting local favorite Eala, she won over Filipino fans with her graciousness. Post-match, Osorio said, “I’m super, super happy and honored to be here in the Philippines for the first time and to be in front of all of you guys. It’s been such a pleasure to play here.” She added, “It’s been an unreal week for all of us, all the players. How you treated us is unreal. I hope to come back in the future.”

Entering 2026 on a three-match losing streak—from the ASB Classic in New Zealand, the Hobart International in Australia, and the Australian Open—Osorio described the week as transformative. “I had a tough start of the year. So winning these matches means a lot to me. And obviously, also being first time here, it’s like, it’s unreal, and basically a fairy tale for me,” she reflected. Osorio praised the Filipino hospitality, stating, “I think besides Colombia, this is my top one... [Filipinos are] very, very kind, very loving, and you can feel the passion. It’s very nice to see their energy. I think it’s in the top three for sure, like I really enjoyed the environment.”

The tournament highlighted the growing tennis scene in the Philippines, drawing international attention to the sport locally.
