The Central Washington University track and field team delivered a strong performance at a meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with several athletes achieving top rankings in NCAA Division II events. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Central Washington University track and field team competed over an excellent weekend, breaking into national rankings with impressive showings across sprint and field events.
On the women's side, Ashlyn Nielsen secured 11th place in the 200 meters with a time of 24.16 seconds, earning her a fifth-place ranking in NCAA Division II. She also finished 18th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries at 7.65 seconds. Elise Hopper followed closely, taking 12th in the 200 meters at 24.18 seconds, which ranks sixth nationally in Division II. Hopper added an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking 55.19 seconds and ranking 11th in the nation for Division II.
Reigning national champion Emy Ntekpere competed in the triple jump, placing eighth with a mark of 12.47 meters (40 feet, 11 inches).
The men's team also shone, with Colton Magruder facing a tough NCAA Division I field. He placed 12th in the 200 meters at 22.09 seconds and 14th in the 60-meter dash preliminaries at 6.88 seconds. David Brown ran the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries in 8.19 seconds, finishing 12th and just missing the final qualification.
These performances underscore the Wildcats' depth and potential as they build momentum in the indoor season.
