Ciliwung River overflows, flooding 15 neighborhoods in East Jakarta

High rainfall caused the Ciliwung River to overflow, flooding at least 15 neighborhoods in East Jakarta. Water levels reached 30 to 80 centimeters. The DKI Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency is monitoring and addressing the situation.

On Sunday (December 7, 2025), flooding struck East Jakarta due to high-intensity rain that hit the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings. As a result, the Ciliwung River overflowed, causing waterlogging in various neighborhoods.

According to Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Data and Information Center for Disasters at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), by 09:00 WIB, 15 neighborhoods were flooded. "As of 09:00 WIB, there are 15 RTs that are flooded," he said in Jakarta.

Flood depths varied: in Bidara Cina Ward (3 RTs, 30-35 cm), Kampung Melayu Ward (4 RTs, 80 cm), Cawang Ward (5 RTs, 80 cm), and Cililitan Ward (3 RTs, 50 cm). Yohan explained that the main cause was heavy rainfall, which is still being addressed.

The DKI Jakarta BPBD has deployed personnel to monitor the flooding and coordinate with the Water Resources Agency, Public Works Agency, and Public Works, Logistics, and Land Agency. They are also ensuring water channels function properly to drain the water faster. "In addition, we are also making sure the water channels are functioning well so that the flooding recedes quickly," Yohan added.

The BPBD urges the public to remain vigilant against potential further flooding. In emergencies, residents are advised to call the 112 service, which operates 24 hours for free.
